This painting has been completed "alla prima."
In Italian, the term "alla prima" means "at first attempt". In other words, the paintings are completed in a single session, on location, without further layers or refinements in the studio. Alla prima paintings tend more toward impressionistic than realistic, while the subjects are definitely recognizable.
I've always wanted to paint the little houses on Surf Drive (do they have a name?) It's a challenge to do architecture quickly and with painting knife wet into wet - but this was fun. I will definitely go back to do another one (or two or more.) Likely pen and ink with light watercolor washes.
