This painting has been completed "alla prima."
In Italian, the term "alla prima" means "at first attempt". In other words, the paintings are completed in a single session, on location, without further layers or refinements in the studio. Alla prima paintings tend more toward impressionistic than realistic, while the subjects are definitely recognizable.

Chapoquoit Harbor
This one has always felt quite unfinished to me, and for some odd reason some of the sky paint is cracked in underlayer, but still lovely at a little distance, so moving it into the Mimi's Loft collection at deep discount.
