This painting has been completed "alla prima."
In Italian, the term "alla prima" means "at first attempt". In other words, the paintings are completed in a single session, on location, without further layers or refinements in the studio. Alla prima paintings tend more toward impressionistic than realistic, while the subjects are definitely recognizable.
At Little Island in West Falmouth. The access is private in peak summer, so grateful to get there on this day to paint. So beautiful. Looking across to the mouth to West Falmouth Harbor, with the homes of Chapoquoit Island across the water.
