This painting has been completed "alla prima."
In Italian, the term "alla prima" means "at first attempt". In other words, the paintings are completed in a single session, on location, without further layers or refinements in the studio. Alla prima paintings tend more toward impressionistic than realistic, while the subjects are definitely recognizable.
For those who say "I can't afford one of your paintings right now" I created the Alla Prima line... paintings done on location in one sitting. Today's is extra budget friendly - a little 4"x4" stretched canvas oil painting of the approach road to Chapoquoit Island - which is kinda funny and I suppose ironic given that the road leads to some of the 'higher budget' properties in West Falmouth!
